Drama Festivals

We successfully participated in the Mombasa colleges and universities drama festivals which took place at shanzu teachers training college with three entries on 22-3-2014. A dramatized narrative titled ‘JAMACH’. It merited a win of 1st position.  A dramatized solo verse titled ‘HOUSE NO. 9’, the solo had a good choice of theme touching on security in our community. Quite a pertinent issue, it also merited a win of 1st position. The third entry was a beautiful dramatized choral verse with the title ‘THE BUTCHER’. The theme touches on a current issue….POACHING.

The drama group will represent the county in the national level competition at Kagumo TTC, Nyeri County. Let us Give all the support to our drama club which has gone to represent as at the nationals. May they bring us trophies from the competition.

The Low Season Misconception about Hospitality and Tourism Sector

The Low Season Misconception about Hospitality and Tourism Sector

The biggest misconception for people that have not studied hospitality or worked in it is that it may not be a good long-term career choice. A lot say it depends with the number of tourists, mostly a high season. This is for waiters; they think everyone in the tourism sector is a waiter.  They forget that the tourism and hospitality industry in most country of the world have started to encourage domestic or local tourists. A lot of times people look at it and say, "Well, those are the food servers in the restaurant or the front-office clerks," and they don't think about the higher-level positions that we have in a hotel.

The low season misconception is almost becoming history. Domestic tourism is growing, local tourists want to discover and enjoy what they see and hear on the televisions and radios. They say the possession of a heart is a visitor; this makes local tourists to want their fantasies to become reality. Internal tourists want to see leopards with their naked eyes, want to drink coffee at Jadini Beach hotel and intercontinental hotel. They want to experience how it feels sleeping at Neptune beach hotel in Kenya. This is because the heart is a visitor and any time the creator can take it.

Food and beverage service at Utalii these days they have advanced the course, those days’ people had to be waiters and later advance their studies to become supervisors but now they have revised the syllabus. With a certificate in food and beverage service you can become a book keeper, a purchaser and a store keeper of a hotel. There are many options in the hospitality and tourism sector, you can venture into hotel management, tourism and travel management, travel operations, tour guiding and administration, front office, food production, food and beverage services housekeeping and laundry, just to mention a few. You can become a hotel manager, a travel manager, a tour guide administrator and other management courses. If you study for example front office it is not a must you work in the tourism and hospitality sector you can work anywhere, in any company. You can work at Safricom, Kenya port Authority, in banks e.t.c. You might venture in the travel operations where you can work with a travelling agency, tour companies like pollmans and any other in the world.

Don’t be mislead there are many opportunities and options in the hospitality and tourism industry from which you can choose from. Come and join our reputable and recognized institution.
